Smilies etc grey out

Hope this is right section for this........

When I reply to a PM on this forum the row of smilie faces and row of format choices light up for a second and then grey out and cannot be used. Even in a full edit it's the same.

Writing this thread it's the same so I cannot end with a cheery smilie face :-)

I am using a laptop with Windows 8. On my XP desk top it all works OK.

So probably this useless, unfriendly W8 is at fault.

Anyone else have this problem and have they solved it?

Thanks for that suggestion.  I was using IE10.

 

It works OK for me too in Firefox :)

In the toolbar, top left of the editor, there is a button to switch modes. Try clicking that.

Firefox is working OK so I shall stick with that.   If I alter settings I get into such a

pickle at times   O, that's a good name for a constellation, "The Pickle."
