Sorry, i can't fathom out how you add images.

Much preferred it the way it was (i.e. easy to upload)

You'll have to google, or i could email you the images i have of it.

You need I host your images elsewhere like Flickr or photobucket and link your images in your posts on here.

Yes it was easier to use - but it was very demanding on space and (more importantly) slowed the forum down to a crawl too many times. The Gallery was expensive and growth patterns indicated the cost would spiral in the future - so the decision was taken to host pics externally. Hope that helps :)

I have a Flickr account with the images on there.....but wasn't able to link it.

It's nothing to do with me having a non windows PC is it. I have an Apple iMac

Felix, how did you manage to show images of your new moonlight on the Equipment gallery then ?

Hey Rob,

On flickr yopu have to go to the picture you want to link to your post on here and in the bottom right corner there is a small icon (see pic below-I have circled the icon in white) and then you have some options. If you click on "Grab the HTML/BBC Code" and selct the BBC Code option you then just highlight the BBC Code and copy and paste it into your post here :)

Hope th pics below explain it a little clearer than me!!

Thanks Felix for the helpful advice. I think i'm getting somewhere at last.

Having said that it seems a very crude way of posting images on to the forum. This should be an elementary task.

The Windows interface is also completely alien to me which doesn't help.

Surely there has to be a better way......? A simpler, more Apple-like way ?

I guess i'm not savvy enough.

Nice Jupiter image by the way....... ;)

As already mentioned Rob, the reason it is like this is that to host a gallery within the forum cost money and also memory space on the forum. As the amount of images submitted reached near to our maximum capacity, it was decided to have the images off site, from readily available photo sites, and benefit from their storage facilities.

Also by creating a folder within your account, many images can be viewed by others, simply by creating a link to that folder, rather than one image.

It may seem a bit cumbersome, but it has allowed the forum to run faster, which is a benefit to the community as a whole..

Thanks Martin and Kim.

I understand the reasons for doing it with regard to costs etc, and storage issues. It was not my intention to grumble about it.

But how come SGL still has the option to attach files like we used to do on here........?

I'm not very computer savvy to be honest, especially with Windows systems, so it's all a steep learning curve.

I think they still have their own servers Rob, plus they have considerable commercial sponsorship from a retailer. Whereas we have to pay to be hosted by a commercial website provider, and this is resourced from club funds. Totally different set up ..... :)

Here's a few pictures of the 8mm, now i've got the hang of this Flickr sharing thing. (Thanks Felix)

If i've had no takers after a week, i'll advertise it on UKAB/S.
