How would the baader 7nm filter stack up with my set of lrgb astronomik filters Stephen ?

I was on the look out for a astronomik 12 nm filter but not sure if I should go for the 7 nm option.

Any help thanks

all I can say is when i bought my filters they said the narrower the better up to 5nm in the UK.  So I would have to say 7nm must be much

better then 12 IMHO.  I dont think the Baaders have the bad halos of the astronomics, never noticed them on Stephens images too much.

Are these any good for visual? Also 1.25" or 2"?

1.25 (post edited thanks) and no, I'm afraid these are imaging filters

I'm not entirely sure what the question is regarding stacking with the LRGB filters, but in short if you're considering HaRGB then it will stack out just fine.

As to bandpass, Steve has just gone from 12 to 7, I'm going from 7 to 5 ... the narrower the better :)

Apart from 3nm, we just don't have the skies for that in the UK

and I will be going for 5nm when I have the money but I think a new chuck for the lathe is first

Sorry Stephen,

I wasn't to clear, what I was getting at was would they fit I.e. suitability with my set of astronomik filters and I take it it's parfocal.

I see no reason why they would not suit, maybe Steve can give you a better answer on that :)

As to parfocal, that's probably unlikely being of different makes - what I can say though is my Baader L is almost parfocal with the Ha

I would say they would not be parfocal

but then again nor are my RGB astromomics

they are close but really  shows up with the planetary imaging at 5m f/l

The only time use the filter wheel now is when I do planetary

with DSO's I tend to do 1 filter /night  (or longer) and now I use auto focusing do  several re focusings a night

so all in all parfocal is not an issue for me

If you think about it, even if the filters are parfocal that's not the whole story. It's a waste of time if the scope itself focuses the wavelengths in 3 different places.

So the better the scope the more benefit you gain from having parfocal filters. To the limit that with something like at ST80 you'd still be focusing every colour individually.

I think?
