Cannot search for abbreviations

Why doesn't this forum allow one to search for commonly used abbreviations?

Such as PST for example, which is used frequently in solar discussions.

Searches are limited to words with four characters or more in them, normally to reduce strain on the server. It takes more grunt to search forums for three letter words :)

Probably one for Craig to comment further on :)

I'm not sure if Craig will ban for me saying this, but if you search for:

*PST* then you get your hits... There is one.

Star three characters star.

The other option is to use a search engine that searches areas accessible by the public of the website, like the one at the bottom of this page:

I prefer public beatings to bans. ;)

Stephen is right though - it does cause more load on the server to search for 3 characters. Some MySQL configurations enforce 4 characters searches minimum which, I believe, is the case here. (edit: tested and this is the case, so 4 characters minimum I'm afraid!)

You can of course use wildcards as James suggests. ;)

I much rather prefer a good stoneing.

I can sell you a false beard and a bad of gravel for a shekal.
