Jupiter - first imaging with ED80

OK, wrong telescope and camera for the job but the seeing was deteriorating, high altitude clouds rolling in and the wider field more interesting stuff that would have been easier to focus on had dropped below the horizon (or roofs). We had spent a happy evening looking at a few objects visually so had missed my earlier photographic opportunities. :)

It was still a chance to check if I could achieve focus (which appears to be the case without any extension tubes) and try out the loaned ED80 and EQ5. No polar scope and quite rough polar alignment meant I could only achieve short exposures (about 30 or so seconds) but that of course was not a problem for Jupiter itself.

This is only a few images edited, size increased and composed to get the brighter Jupiter and fainter moons in so it's a bit rough but a new bit of exploring for me!

Hi

Yes a DSLR. Nikon D5000.

There is no stacking here only some exposure compensation to bring out the bands/clouds on Jupiters disk. I could probably have brought that out a bit more.

It's a  composite with longer exposures for the moons. Edited in GIMP2
