According to a talk I attended, Venus is the number one culprit, especially when it "follows" cars. I've seen Capella showing different colours and had trouble convincing people it was a star. My uncle once did some spoof images. OK, you could tell they were fake but it was funny. I once saw what looked like a flying saucer when I took a photo in Hungary but expect it was more likely an out of focus bird.


 


As for little green men, if they were that intelligent, they'd give us a wide berth. My guess is that microbiological life is common in the universe, plants quite rare and animals  very rare indeed.
