Custom Counterweights.

I was fed up with the counterweights being so heavy, so I got my dad to make me some out of Titanium.

Okay, so they are a tiny bit bigger but they have saved me about 3 Kgs but I have had to have 3 because it wouldn't quite balance with 2. I should be able to use the 200p on the eq6 even easier now and get some good results due to the weight saving. :)

2.3 and a bit kg's. I had hoped 2 would be enough since they are that bit bigger, but I ended up with 3 in order to balance the 200p with the camera etc on there. The plus side is this will also help massively with the 200p on the eq5 which was really pushing it before, but a saving of 3kg should help no end.

Very nice Mike.

The added advantage is if people know what they are made from they will just pinch the weights and leave the mount ;)

That is a point I had not considered, however I do plan to paint them white to match the mount after the weekend.

Maybe my thinking is a bit off, but isn't the point of a counter weight to be heavy?

Not if they're too heavy :)

True it doesn't want to be too heavy but I would have thought that one single heavier weight would be better than several lighter ones. My thinking being that with the single heavier one you would place it closer to the pivot pint of the axis therefore reducing inertia.

Assuming a one configuration rig - Mike has multiple configurations and will have to change how many cws are on for each I suspect?
