Waxing crescent - 04/04/2014

This was really just a test of my new CCD.  This is the result of 20 subs x 0.3 sec at prime focus on the ED80. The only processing was an unsharp mask. I am really impressed with the Atik.

Seeing it in crescent like this really does make you appreciate the surface more than a full moon shot. And the contrast of the moon and the deep black of space behind looks good on this image.

Thanks for the kind comments. Interestingly, when I stacked it in Registax, the tones were quite muted and I think would have need a bit of processing to get the image looking better. This I stacked using a Linux command called "ale" and I must say I prefered the result straight away.
