M82 and M81 - SN still visible

The moon was causing all sorts of problems here but fancied having a go. Combined with tracking limited by only [rough] polar alignment meant I could only get about 20-30second exposures.

Nikon D5000, Ibbo's ED80 and EQ5.

This is the result of stacking 30 light frames + 1 dark. Stacked in DSS, processed in GIMP.

Quite pleased but would love to try longer subs and tease out more detail in M81.

Cropped - better colour

Some great detail there, despite the best efforts of the moon. Amazed the super nova is still visible.

Nice Steve, shame about blobby. The second picture is definitely better.

When I zoomed in I'm sure I can make out the spiral arms.

Thanks Dave and Damian,

I prefer the second one. There is just a little detail on the spiral arms I think and quite nice it picked up the third galaxy in the group (Which to confess was accidental... I didn't know it was there till afterwards! :) ) I have tried to extract  a little more out data (see below) Cheated a little and not really worth it from what I can tell.

I'm surprised the SN is still visible too. Much better pictures than my last efforts with an untracked 300mm lens so I'm well chuffed :)
