C11 upgrade

With the pants weather and short nights, I've treated my C11 to an upgrade, a carbon fibre tube and some cooling fans. I bought the tube from Public Missiles in the States and the fans from Deep Space Products in the States.

Think the new tube looks great:

Like the fans too:

just hoping these changes and the OAG (still struggling with this) will improve my imaging.

When you have the two tubes side by side, the cf tube is noticeably lighter, but the tube is such a small part of the overall weight, it doesn't make that much difference for the total weight. I would imagine with the extra weight of the fans, there's not much in it.

Can't wait to try it out though. You're supposed to be able to run the fans while you're imaging as there's no noticeable vibration:

Very nice.......

I've had my eye on these 'Tempest' fans from Deepspace products for a while Dave. Neat idea....

They're not cheap at $165 though  :(

The design of the 'Edge' series (i have the 8") with its twin 'passive cooling vents' is crying out for this mod.

That looks like a Baader quick release collar there ?

Is that a motorised focuser too ? Not seen a design like that..........

Luckily for me, the non Edge fans are cheaper. The four fans cost $125.00 plus delivery plus VAT. The focuser is a JMI motofocus which I control from my PC via a HitecAstro DC focus controller. Seems to work quite well. Just hoping for an improvement in the sharpness of my images with the fans and CF tube.
