Ok so im giving Cartes Du Ciel a go as it seems to be what all the otehr cool kids are using ! ;)

Can anyone help me out with it, I am trying to get the program to identify the major stars by their more commonly known names rather than
somewhat obscure catalog numbers.

How does one do this??

Thanks

That's the one, also if you press the Binocular icon you can find the common stars and common named deep space objects as well! :)

Thanks Sheila,

Never realised there was an option to plot the proper motions of stars. It also lets you specify the line to be drawn for any number of years. Good for finding actual members of star clusters.

The option is in...
