Jupiter Callisto transit plus another?

Recommended Posts

As javascript jupiter predicted a transit and GRS this evening I thought I'd give it a go.

Conditions were excellent so I took lots of webcam data.

This is a quick first pass at one of the .avi's which I have to say is one of my best so far.

But what is the other shadow? it wasn't supposed to be a double!

Any Ideas?

Hi I believe it is the moon Callisto transiting the disc and its respective shadow.

Hi,

I was also out photographing Jupiter last night. The dark patch on the right is Callisto. I watched it as it moved onto the planets disc. A strange effect as the moon went from a bright star to dark patch as it started the transit. Unfortunately the night was a battle with neighbours heating vents causing turbulence and I had given up before its shadow started a transit.

Thanks for the comments chaps.

Looks like it was Callisto then. Also found this (amongst others) on stargazers lounge:

Had a go at some more wavelets but I don't think its much better (still one of my best though):

Also a short avi of the event. I would have gone on longer but the secondary started to fog-up:
