Settings in PHD for a QHY 5

Graham

Recommended Posts

Can someone please tell me what settings they use in PHD for a QHY 5 guidecam.

When I select the Ascom camera from the drop down list I get the list of cameras.

I select the 5 and then in the next box properties.

Here I get to choose the exposer or brightness or something like that.

It is set on 12 which seemed a bit dark to me so I moved it up to 25.

Any advice on what it should be.

I also notice that when running in PHD there is no camera control box.

thanks

Graham

Hi I just got the QHY5L-II last week and I use PHD but I select QHY5L-II from the list NOT ASCOM camera

Click connect

then bottom left click on the blue turning arrow icon next to the camera icon

then select Auto-Select Star from the tools menu up top

if star is found and cross hairs go green select PHD bullseye icon at bottom

thats it Oh I have it set to Auto (box next to stop icon)

Change nothing else at this early stage (that is assuming its new to you sorry if not)

My biggest hitch was getting the QHY focused on the SW 9x50 guide scope!

Hope some of this helps

Thanks Neil

I am using an older version of PHD.

I have found one mistake I have made.

I selected Ascom camera when I think I should be using Ascom Late camera.

Will try that when this imaging run is finished.

I tried PHD2 and didnt like it so went back to my tried and trusted version.

I select the top one - ASCOM late camera, then properties and select 95% gain.

Cheers Andy will try the 95% next time. Cloud has stopped play for tonight.  :(

with my older QHY5 ascom worked better (or should I say worked)

with the ZWO it crashes EQMOD or loses interest and drifts off into the night

wish i could get PHD to work with my rig

I use the gain at 85% with my zwo 120 mm camera,

I found that PhD 2 worked much better with this camera and the brain settings in PhD 2 are also better, it detects the pixel size of the chip and you put in the focal length of the guide scope and it does it calculations, I'm now guiding in 30 seconds with 8-9 steps in each direction.

For the latest phd version google PhD 2 snapshots.

another tip that might help Graham is make sure that the ra and dec rates in eqmod ascom settings are both ticked and set at 0.50 rate, this is the slew rate for skywatcher mounts.

Cheers Rob already have them ticked.

Since cranking up the gain I have had no further problems.

In fact I am really impressed with its capabilities.
