I used to build a lot of stuff, don't bother to much now. I found if you do it yourself, it's always over engineered and normally way better then any shop bought item. Just take your time there's no rush the stars are never going away.

And don't forget measure twice and cut once, in fact measure at least four times

Amen with that last point Mick have been there

"And don't forget measure twice and cut once, in fact measure at least four times " - does that i need to use my toes as well as fingers to count ? :(

Well thanks everyone for your replies, after adding up everything I needed to do it myself, it came to over £75, plus my time to do it, so after a spot of t'internet searching I managed to get the one linked to by Sheila, delivered for £53.97.

Happy days.

If you want to factor in your time, just estimate it using the minimum wage as a rough guide to how much your time is worth. It's amazing how much time some projects take, particularly if you are like me and end up with a MK12 version before you get it right.

Some folks enjoy doing the practical bit, and the satisfaction of making something is all part of the hobby. But as you say, it's a battery box and when all said and done, it makes sense to buy one.
