I finally started my obsy build this afternoon.

Site before-

The pier pipe purchased, 150mm x 2m.

Site cleared and pier hole half dug, shed ordered.

North is in the corner to the left.

Its where I always observe from and Polaris is easily visible, I think the camera foreshortens the distance to the house behind.

Building an obsy was the best thing I have done, saves a lot of time and effort lugging kit about, good luck on the build!!

We should organise an obsy building party one weekend, Slab laying, shed building etc.. as long as there is a large full teapot I'd be game, good idea??

I think the hardest part is the location! When that's sorted you have an idea of the size you can use. Decide on a design (considering size etc..), Base type, pier size and start digging!! That's when the party arrives!!

Well when you do get started, think about the building party idea? Always good to get together !! :)

A proper builders merchants have pipe in about 6" to 10". I know that because when I was building our extention I went down there to pick up some supplies and saw it. It's that yellow ABS plastic pipe for sewers etc.

Little bit more done today -

002-1.jpg

Hole now 2x2x2 foot, angle iron (5foot) knocked in.

001-1.jpg

Pipe cut and 2 stainless rods threaded through. The rods help centralise the pipe on the angle iron.

003-4.jpg

Now waiting to be concreted on Monday.

Check the threads on SGL on obsy builds, theres loads of good info!!

I've got a 8 foot x 6 foot apex shed (windowless) on the way.

The pipe is 5 foot 9 inches long after I chopped about 9 inches off, so 3 foot 4 inches above ground level which should be 3 foot above shed floor level.

5 inches is buried in the soil at the bottom of the hole already.

Day off at Wembley yesterday courtesy of work, watched Luton get beat by York City.

001-2.jpg

Today was concrete day, 350 Kgs mixed by hand (spade). 3 aggregate to 1 cement mix.

Mounting bolts M10 set in top of pier and central rod which is M6 thread and 1.5m long added for safety. (I worry).

Forgot to mention before, the bottom of the hole is about 6 inches wider than the top.

Just been outside - concrete is curing well, damped it down and re-covered. It looks like its going to be a hot one today so I will damp it down again later and keep it covered.

Latest update -

Been working hard today leveling the ground and making the base.

Installed 40mm pipe as a conduit for the cables.

001-4.jpg

When the shed is built it will have another 18mm floor on top of a damp barrier.

Different foreman this time.

That obsy looks to be coming on great. Can't wait to see the finished thing.

Looking great Andy. Is it possible the cats interest may extend to it having time at the eyepiece?
