So has Graham got rid of the worm and wheel then Ron?

As I understand it, the belt drive mod just replaces the spur gear train with an equivalent pulley and belt train. Obtaining the 180:1 final reduction of the worm and wheel would be some achievement with pulleys and belts.

Did a short run with the newly balanced rig last night and after a PA with iPolar my guiding was really good,

neither RA or Dec went above 0.08 and I noticed the mount slewed a lot better!

yep thats my understanding, it replaces the spur gears just like my mod of the heq5. The mod reduces the severe backlash and improves guiding but the worm and wheel is still there. This has to operate with some clearance by its very nature, thus the same little bit of preload applies. If there is no backlash, there is no clearance therefore your worm and wheel are no doubt locked/seized or very close to that.

Pedantic I am being, yes (sorry bout the Yoda talk) but a belt mod just gets rid of the spur gear backlash.

A true belt drive would be motor-belt-axes with no worm.
