Spent a great evening observing the moon using the book you recommended Hamlyn’s ‘A Concise guide in Colour Moon Mars and Venus. It’s a great resource. My only niggle is you can’t see some page numbers with a red light. On my own in the garden it’s not a problem using a white light. Thanks

The Hamlyn atlas is famous as it features the Antonín Rükl map. In the past I've had similar problems with planispheres, eventually I just decided beforehand what lunar features I wanted to observe. The Chandler planisphere was a bit better, in that red light illuminates it fairly well, but not much.
