Recommended Posts

As part of the Derby & District Astronomical Society's 50th Anniversary celebrations this year, Dr Allan Chapman will be giving a talk on John Flamsteed: Derby's gift to Astronomy, and founder of the Greenwich Observatory, at Derby Museum and Art Gallery at 2 pm on Saturday, 18th May 2024.  Dr Chapman is a historian of science at Oxford University, and has presented the TV series Gods in the Sky and Great Scientists, and has appeared on the BBC's Stargazing Live. Author of 16 books and numerous articles, he has also been a popular speaker at the annual Astrofest in London. He is arguably the world's leading expert on John Flamsteed of Derby, England's first Astronomer Royal.  Places are limited so booking is essential, and tickres may be booked at: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/derby-museums/john-flamsteed-derbys-gift-to-astronomy-and-founder-of-the-greenwich-observatory-with-dr-allan/2024-05-18/14:00/t-earyknk
