How did you flock your tube.

It's fiddly Frederic but is possible. For a much neater job remove the spider and focuser.

If you are not sure take loads of photo's on your phone so you know how it all goes back together and mark little pencil lines so you know where the focuser goes back in the tube etc.

Then of course you will need to collimate it.

Omg I am with you mick-I took everything apart and photographed everything along the way. Final part of flocking material crinkled when I "smoothed" it out and I ripped it out and started again. I have a lovely, smoothly, evenly flocked OTA now :)

Guest dardano

Depends how much of perfectionist you are, I would hate crinkled flocking in my tube.

I am perfectionist at some level.

I will think about it if I flock my OTA or not. It'll depend if I want to strip my OTA from everything to do this job.

Thanks

Although it is a daunting task to remove the Mirror cell ,a secondary with the spider, it will save you time in the long run.

To remove the mirror, stand it on its head, with the mirror at the top. Get two bits of tape, put one bit on the tube, and one directly next to it on the mirror cell. This is to align it back to where it came form. You can lift the cell straight up and put it safe.

When you put the secondary back, get a plastic rule, ( saves damaging anything ) and make sure it's centred before making any other adjustments.

Then collimate as normal.

I would expect the flocking would get stuck to everything but the tube if you didn't remove the mirror's, and they are sacred!

First I flocked myself - then sprayed some glue into the tube - then I rolled round inside it lol. Well - it was almost like that - the darned stuff stuck everywhere except where I wanted it to lol. :)
