Yeah the lazy Susan just makes it so much easier to manually tracking objects across he sky. The right angle correct image finder is a real neck saver.

Hi Pete, the 200p is a great scope and will keep you happy and busy for a long time. The views through it are great and I hope you are able to join some of us at one of our meets at some point as some of our members have similar scopes and will be able to advise how to get the best from it.

Well done on the new scope.

The right angle finder is just what your back and neck needed, it saves having to bend over and look up in line with the tube of the scope. When pointing at objects high up, then this is where it saves your back.

The Lazy Susan bearing will also make the operation of the scope better. You want enough friction to stop the scope moving about when you have pointed it at something, but free enough to move smoothly, and not stick, so you don't keep over and undershooting what you are looking at.

I reckon a squint at Jupiter will be a good one to start the ball rolling.

Don't worry about asking loads of questions, we were all there once, if you don't make mistakes, you don't get experience.

Pete I have a couple of eyepiece bolt cases if you want them..good for protecting those expensive EP's.

Personal message me your address and I'll get them in the post to you.

Hi Pete congratulations on your new scope.

Dobs are fantastic bits of kit to mod, I have done a few but I'll list the main mods here:

Lazy susan bearing

An azimuth circle with a hole cut out to view the degrees

Feet levellers

A bubble level attached to to the base

Flocking of the optical tube

Counterweights

Fan

Wixey for the altitude reading.

An adjustable base for the wixey to sit on, so accuracy becomes better.

A telrad.

A dew heater to include dew control for telrad and secondary mirror

A dew shield

Anyway if you have any questions just ask.

Look in the DIY section on this forum there's some ideas there.

I have some levelling feet spare. I got them for another project which never got off the ground (so to speak )

They are the plastic shed levellers from B&Q.

Well, I never knew these existed!

Cheers Martyn, you keep coming up with some useful links.

So, according to the specs, 3 of these would level and support a 1 ton Dob!! :)

Chloe is very lucky.

When I was not much older than her, my dad bought me a 4" reflector. My scope had only one quarter of the light gathering power of Chloe's 8", and I was amazed at the wonders I could see with it. I may have benefitted from less light polluted skies all those hundreds of years ago :)

Very nice purchase :)

Well Peter - they support a one hundredweight 16" dob absolutely fine :)

Seems they are being put to good use. Much better than for a shed :)
