Sharpcap 2

I found, under the camera file heading, that my camera appeared twice, once under "direct detect" cameras, and also under it's own manufacturers heading. The number of options it gave me to make adjustments differed depending upon which one I selected. I presumed one was a generic 'plug and plug' mode, whereas the other was a more sophisticated setup whereby I assume the drivers I'd installed into the computer had uploaded something to sharpcap. Just check to see if you can somehow install your camera-specific drivers into sharpcap, and/or if there are two ways to select your camera.

James, It automatically detected the camera and was on the list of cameras, I didn't have to go into direct detect. I think I'll stick with firecapture now, offers more features.

My laptop did some .net update yesterday, and last night sharpcap was being a right pain, and freezing constantly. Shapcap was also saving avi files which nothing could open. I just had a bad night all round! Lol

I had the same problem the other night James,  I had 3 avi files of which 2 couldn't be opened, think I'll go back to a previous version or try wx astrocapture again.

Bit it is all largely freeware so we shouldn't be too critical. It would just be nice not to have to have a constant worry about the software along with ALL the other worries and difficulties.

That''s what we get for wanting to do imaging though i guess.

Not really James, Sharpcap 1 is a great program that works well (most of the time!) so we should expect Sharpcap 2 to be an improvement (and it isn't!)

agree, sharpcap used to be alot better than wx astrocapture, and the focus adition in sharpcap 2 is a great addition, but iu`ve had no luck at all using it with the Atik Titan and lots of crashes with the webcams, shame

To be fair, hardware integration is a nightmare and the new version does sound like a rewrite. You could help the guy out by reporting bugs.

I'm not rubbishing his efforts, I was using a older version of sharpcap for a long while with great effect,  just strange how a updated version then doesn't work with webcams it used to and then doesn't open the avi files.

I was going to email the link to this page to the developer(s) but it's all via google groups or something.

  • 3 months later...

Version 2.1 now:

http://stargazerslounge.com/index.php?/topic/74272-SharpCap---free-Astro-Webcam-Capture-Software/page__view__findpost__p__227174

Bahtinov focus routine.

Improvements for ZWO owners.

Histogram.

Numerical control of settings, not just sliders.

Sounds a bit more like the front end of Fire capture now.

I will be downloading it and giving it a whirl.

As a matter of interest do any of you ever donate to "Free" software developers ? :)

As a matter of record I do as I know how much effort it takes to develop software (commercial) especially such specialised s/w.
