We'll be celebrating the Society's 40TH ANNIVERSARY during a special OPEN DAY this Saturday 21st June 2014 from 10 am to 4 pm at The Friends Meeting House, St. Helens Street, Derby, DE1 3GY. ADMISSION IS FREE! There will be a programme of four talks spread throughout the day (see below). We'll have displays, telescopes (including solar observing if the weather permits), snacks and refreshments. Members will be on hand to give advice on astronomy and telescopes. We are offering a special discount on membership if you join on the day. This open day replaces both the introductory meeting the evening before and the observing session the same day.

    10:15 - 11:15  In the Footsteps of Flamsteed  - Dr Mike Lancaster, Derby & District Astronomical Society
    11:30 - 12:30  Observing Star Clusters  - Martin Griffiths, University of South Wales
    13:30 - 14:30  Images of Space: Art or Science  - Paul Money
    15:00 - 16:00  Professional and Amateur Astronomy - Dr Colin Steele, University of Manchester
