Doc Posted October 12, 2015 Share Posted October 12, 2015 Sunday night was awesome. It cleared about 23.00 and carried on until bed time around 04.00. I would say it was one of the darkest and clearest nights I've had, easily darker then Kelling. By this time there was only myself, Martin, Pete Sullivan, Cazz, Ibbo, Andy and Chris left. Stephen had gone to bed early due to the long trip back to Eastborne. The campsite has loads of plus points but I admit a few negatives that need to be ironed out. tuckstar Posted October 12, 2015 Share Posted October 12, 2015 Home safe and sound and the m1 was clear to J26. Fantastic weekend with some great people. Pete has put us all to shame with his location skills and that dob is nearly as big as the portions at the local pub!! Great campsite surrounded with some gorgeous countryside. Although we had two nights of cloud, last night made up for it. Cristal clear dark skies. Would definitely return if we do it again. Now to find some time to unpack. A big thanks to Steve Ibbo, Mike Perkins and Daz for their help organizing this event. We looked at a lot of sites, LP and contour maps to try and find one that would suit. Eventually this one was chosen, as it seemed a reasonable distance to travel and having decent facilities other than it being dark. It's fair to say there were some issues with the booking system, ie They had forgotten about the ramblers booking 18 months earlier. But having a word with the ramblers, we sorted it out and they were great regarding closing curtains and so on. The lights in the toilet block were turned off completely. Now we know the way things work up there, the quality of the sky and the local facilities, I think that we could make this our EMS star party venue. While we were there we were forced to use the pub as a cloud shelter, those who were forced to try the local brew had a good chat. During this we had a very productive discussion, not only about the site, but also about the forum, it's meets and so on in general. When we have all got sorted out and back to normality, we will continue this discussion and put the ideas forward, so those who couldn't attend can see what was voiced and add to the debate. For me the site was as good as we could expect at such short notice, it took me two and a half hours to get there and the only parts I had to concentrate on were after getting off the A1. The site is well maintained and the toilet block and showers were very clean. The shop on site is limited in what it sells, so it's wise to either bring your own stuff, or go shopping in Pately Bridge, which is fifteen minutes away. I think this site has potential and after we have had a chat about it, we will approach the site and organise it so we have better control. They are keen to develop this as purely a star gazers event, with no muggles being allowed on. I will post my pictures up when I have got a minute. (No Sequins!) Thank you to all for such excellent company, especially Stephen and Tom, who made such an effort to be there.
