A bit more today.

All that is left now is the 50mm thick top made up of four 8x2 planks.

And then paint it all.

It isn't the same one your neighbour gave me.

That one is a Woden vice, when I have 10 minutes I'll clean it up and give it a paint and service.

If its anything like my work top in the garage it will have paint all over it, nails, saw cuts and have as many holes in it as swiss cheese after 6 months

Wow what a day

After letting the paint dry over the weekend I decided today's job should be the work bench top. I had ordered four lengths of 8x2 timber and when it arrived I could tell it wasn't exactly straight. Almost everyone had a slight bow in the timber.

Anyway I gave it a go to fit them. I started by cutting them to length and gluing one side. I then clamped them down into position, this got rid of the bow in the timber, and then I screwed 8 screws from underneath into the timber, this almost held the plank of timber straight. I then drilled and counterbored two holes in each end and screwed those from the top. To cover this I plugged these holes with dowels.

I then repeated the above with three more planks. It's pretty flat now but needs a good sanding.

I then painted the backs of the cupboard drawers so they can dry for tomorrow.

Almost finished now just the top to have one more sand down and some danish oil putting on it. Then I need to secure the vice but need some M10 x 100mm bolts for that.

I still need to build a second bench 3.0 metres in length for the opposite wall so my milling machine, drill, grinder and sander can sit on it.

I have some M10 studding that you could have if you can wait until next week, I'll even provide nuts and washers if you need them.

That's a very kind offer Baz. give me a buzz and I'll pop round and pick them up. Give us time to have a catch up.

It weighs about 120Kg. I know someone with a van who helped move it, wasn't to bad.

As for a project not sure yet have loads of ideas though.

Afraid not Pete.

Maybe a Alt/Az mount similar to the DM6.

That's a nice bit of kit there Mick. Nice and clean, unless you have been round it with a duster.

Impressive machine there Mick.

They built them well and built them to last back in those days.

Btw, if you want to borrow a DM6 to get some plans together, give me a shout.

Thats a fine piece of kit you have got yourself there Mick.

Useless piece of information for you.

The Myford lathe was originally designed for the navy for use on ships and submarines.

Hence why it is so small but capable of doing everything a full sized lathe can do.
